Wider community access to volunteering

Hands & Gillingham Volunteer Centre runs various Outreach Projects in the wider community, making access to volunteering opportunities much easier.

In addition to the facilities on offer at the Volunteer Centre, based in Rainham, we recognise that it is not always easy, or convenient, for people to get to our offices to chat about volunteering, so we regularly take our 'roadshow' out into the community, to shopping centres, colleges or work places, so that people can more easily come along to see what volunteering opportunities are on offer.

Sometimes we take our publicity stands out alone, at other times in partnership with other organisations, such as the nearby Rochester Volunteer Centre, or CVS Medway.

Our main objective is always to make volunteering more accessible to as wide an audience as possible. In addition to taking our stands to indoor locations, we also attend outdoor venues, such as leisure centres or shopping centre car parks, works premises or special events, using either a trailer or hiring
the Medway Council information bus.

Wherever we take our roadshsow, we provide display boards giving information about volunteering generally, static displays about volunteering opportunitiees availabvle locally and laptops with mobile wi-fi connection so that propsective volunteers can explore opportunities online, such as our own or the do-it.org web sites. Volunteer Centre staff are always on hand for personal
one-to-one interviews or to address individual enquiries.

By doing this we are able to reach all potential sectors of the community
